About Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina has been offering Palmetto State citizens a variety of products and services for almost 50 years.

We started with a handful of employees in a small office in Greenville. Over the years, we've expanded our operations throughout the state and beyond, creating new offices and thousands of job opportunities for South Carolinians. In addition to several offices in Columbia, we also have offices in Camden, Florence, Greenville, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and in Portsmouth, Virginia.

At the forefront of managed care, our Preferred Personal Care network features more than 5,100 doctors and 59 hospitals across South Carolina. Our health maintenance organization, Companion HealthCare, also has a network of more than 2,200 physicians and 45 hospitals. We serve individuals, families, seniors, military dependents and businesses large and small. The number of people with our managed care Preferred Personal Care coverage grew to almost 400,000 in 1994. Nearly 60,000 seniors depend on the security of our Medicare supplement policies.

We also make it our priority to serve communities. If you've ever seen a Little Leaguer slide into home base with our cross and shield on his t-shirt, you've seen our community efforts. We support the arts, community athletics and research to prevent illnesses and deadly diseases. We gladly lend a helping hand to organizations benefitting children, seniors and veterans.
