*Are you looking for a speaker for your organizations's programs?
*Do you want your members to know more about issues affecting Columbia
and South Carolina?
*Are you seeking ways to help your members be informed voters?
We invite you to use our speakers, who are people from the Columbia community who have volunteered to help us carry out our our mission to "Make Democracy Work". We believe that democratic government depends upon the informed and active participation of citizens, and hope that you will make use of these resource people to share important information with your group on some of the key issues facing voters.
Speakers include persons with higher education and public school experience, persons from government or social service agencies, journalists and League members. We have asked them to give an objective presentation of their respective issues, and to remain nonpartisan in their presentations. They will not be representing positions of the League of Women Voters. Any opinions expressed will be those of the speakers.
The issues we can offer you are those affecting all citizens and our quality of life: Education, Tax Reform, Environment, Children, Elections and Voting, Home Rule and Local Government, the Lottery, International Business and Free Trade, and Women's Issues, among others. For a complete list of topics, click here.
Our speakers appear as a free community service. However, your group may wish to make a voluntary $25 tax-deductible contribution to the Columbia Area League of Women Voters Education Fund to defray our administration expenses. Write, call or e-mail a request for a speaker and state the issue you wish to have addressed, giving the name of your contact person to one of the following:
