Hands-On Active Learning
The students at McCants are involved in active learning. The curriculum includes
whole language, active hands-on manipulatives, co-operative grouping, and centers.
D.A.R.E.
Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a program that
teaches students what drugs are and how they can be abused or misused by everyone.
Its main focus is on alternative things young people may do, resisting peer
pressure, and how to say NO! to drug use through role playing.
Barrier Island Environmental Camp
Barrier Island Environmental Camp is a hands-on science program. The participating
fifth grade students study the ocean, dunes, salt marshes, and fresh water ponds.
They also participate in "Meet A Friend Program" while at the camp. The Barrier
Island is located off the coast of South Carolina.
