| Meeting Roles
The President
calls the meeting to order, introduces guests, presides over the
business meeting, and introduces the Toastmaster of the Day. At
the end of the meeting, the President makes closing remarks, asks
guests for comments, and adjourns the meeting.
The Toastmaster
of the Day, as the "host," coordinates the flow of
the educational part of the program. This includes making opening
and closing comments about the meeting theme, and introducing
participants in turn. A brief biographical sketch is given for the
table topics master, speakers, and the general evaluator. Other
participants are introduced by name only.
The Grammarian
introduces the word of the day and encourages members to use the
word during the meeting (in table topics, evaluations, etc.)
During the meeting, the grammarian listens for unusual grammatical
usages (good and bad), "ah's" and other non-words, and
reports on these at the end of the meeting.
The Timer
times each table topics speech, prepared speech, and evaluation
(including the general evaluation), and reports the times at the
end of the meeting.
The Table
Topics Master conducts table topics, a chance for attendees to
give an impromptu 1- to 2- minute speech on a topic selected by
the topics master.
A Speaker
gives a prepared speech, usually from a Toastmasters manual.
The Jokemaster
tells the joke of the day.
