A Typical
Meeting
-
Call to Order
and Welcome
The club president opens the meeting by welcoming
everyone and leading the group in invocation and the Pledge of
Allegiance. He/she then introduces the Toastmaster of the Day.
The
Toastmaster of the Day plays a key role during the meeting.
He/she may set the theme of the meeting and will introduce the
different roles and speakers for the meeting.
- Joke &
Word of the Day
The Toastmaster of the Day invites the Jokemaster to
enlighten the group with an interesting story or a joke. Next,
the day's Grammarian presents a Word of the Day, which
members will try to use during the meeting, as we practice
expanding our vocabulary and improving our word usage.
- Table Topics
Table Topics session presents speaking opportunities to those who
are not scheduled to speak that day. Members volunteer to speak for
one to two minutes on topics assigned by the Table Topics
Master.
- Speeches
Members develop speaking skills by presenting a series of
speeches, with each speech focusing on a different aspect of
effective communication, such as sincerity, organization, and
vocal variety.
At each meeting, usually two or three members present their
speeches, followed by feedback from the audience.
