DISCUS - South Carolina's Virtual Library  is available via the Internet through South Carolina's schools, colleges and public libraries.

DISCUS provides access to an electronic library of databases ensuring that all South Carolinians have equal access to essential information and learning resources. These resources are carefully selected to provide information from publications that librarians and educators respect.

DISCUS is administered by the SC State Library with funding provided by the South Carolina General Assembly.

This database contains biographical information on more than 200,000 individuals from around the world and throughout history. Researchers may select a brief summary (thumbnail biographies link) or a more in-depth discussion (narrative biographies link) of the individual. The Custom Search link allows for searching in more than one field - birth/death dates, ethnicity, gender, name, nationality and occupation. A useful feature of this site is the option to e-mail data to the patron's e-mail address.
