I am convinced that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
Death can't, and life can't.
The angels can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today,
our worries about tomorrow, and
even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Whether we
are high above the sky or in the
deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate
us from the love of God
that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans
8: 38,39
One of the things I like to emphasize when teaching Sunday School is
the fact that God is
always with us. In the everyday drudgery of living, we often
forget that God, in addition to
being omnipotent, is omnipresent. There are many occasions when
I felt especially close to God.
These include when I was married, and when my children were born and
baptized. One time I
remember feeling especially close to God was when my wife's father
died. He had been sick only
a few weeks. On the day he died, all of his family was
gathered in his hospital room. We were
waiting for him to die. It was a very difficult time. No
one knew what to say or do. Some were
crying, some praying, others talking to my Father in law. The
Spirit of God came upon me and led
me to sing. I sang hymns for an hour or two. Many in the
room sang with me. Somehow, the
singing of God's presence. The fact that God was with us in that
room made the loss of my
Father in law easier to accept. Because we knew that God was
with us when he died, we knew that
he had gone to rest with God. It is important for us to take
note and remember the times when
God is especially close to us, for it is the remembrance of these times
that will strengthen us
when we feel alone. During those times when we question God's
presence, we can look back and
see that God has always been with us, indeed, it is God that has brought
us this far. Prayer:
Dear God, help us to feel your presence in our lives. Help
us to remember that you are
present with us always. Make us mindful of your presence in our
lives. And be sure of this:
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
